LOS ANGELES - A fourth Orange County sheriff's employee has left the department amid a grand jury investigation into a 2006 beating death at the county's largest jail.
A sheriff's spokesman tells the Los Angeles Times that Special Officer Phillip Le was placed on administrative leave April 7 last year and left the department Dec. 5.
The grand jury found that 41-year-old John Derek Chamberlain was beaten to death on Oct. 5, 2006 at Theo Lacy Jail while a guard watched the television show ``Cops'' nearby.
State laws restrict the release of disciplinary records, so it could not be determined if Le resigned or was fired.
In grand jury testimony, Le said under a grant of immunity that deputies worked with inmate ``shot-callers'' who administered beatings to other inmates for bad behavior in return for new clothes or other favors.
