Southbound I-5 Shut Down After Fuel Spill

LOS ANGELES  -  Two lanes of Interstate 5 are open again after a morning fuel spill just north of downtown Los Angeles forced the closure of the freeway's entire southbound side for more than three hours.

Officer Anthony Martin of the California Highway Patrol says a truck's axle punctured its fuel tank and released about 150 gallons of diesel fuel onto all five lanes of the southbound freeway near Dodger Stadium at about 3:30 Thursday morning.

The closure stopped rush hour traffic heading into downtown for miles as traffic had to be diverted to the Harbor Freeway.

The CHP has opened two left lanes and hopes to have all lanes reopened by 8 a.m.
