Foothills Cleanup Underway, But More Storms Coming

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, Calif. (AP) - More storms are heading to Southern California as a fleet of dump trucks clears tons of mud and debris from a Los Angeles-area foothill community where dozens of homes were damaged by slides.

The National Weather Service says a storm should arrive Tuesday, bringing up to an inch of rain. There will be a 40-percent chance of rain on Wednesday and a 20-percent chance on Friday.

The showers could put more pressure on the debris basins designed to protect homes near wildfire-denuded areas of the San Gabriel Mountains. The basins overflowed during a weekend storm, allowing mud and debris to damage 43 homes in La Canada Flintridge.

About 300 trucks are being used to clear the debris channels. Homeowners also have been shoveling mud from their homes. The cleanup will take weeks.
