Proposal First to Specifically Target Prostitutes

LOS ANGELES  -  The city wants prostitutes and pimps banned along a nearly six-mile stretch of Figueroa Street in South Los Angeles.

City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo has asked a judge for an injunction that would bar 36 convicted prostitutes and five known pimps from walking within 100 yards of Figueroa between Vernon Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard.

The area is described as a magnet for those plying the sex trade.

Police Detective Bill Margolis says prostitutes work the sidewalks in broad daylight as school children pass.

Delgadillo has managed to limit gang activity in neighborhoods citywide with 36 separate injunctions, but the proposal filed Friday is the first targeting prostitutes.
