Death of Missing Deputy Ruled a Suicide

PERRIS, Calif. (AP) - Medical examiners say a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy found dead in the Cleveland National Forest after a massive search had killed himself with a shotgun wound to the head.

The Riverside County coroner's office said Tuesday the death of 42-year-old Zoltan Tombol had been ruled a suicide.

The coroner's office did not reveal whether the body had any other signs of trauma.

Tombol was reported missing Oct. 18 after he failed to come home after going for a run outside Corona. Searchers found his body off a trail two days later.

Tombol was a 19-year veteran of the department. His wife says he was an avid jogger and hiker.

Toxicology tests will take four to eight weeks.
