BEVERLY HILLS - The Beverly Hills City Council has approved a hotly contested plan to build a Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and two condominium buildings on the Beverly Hilton's property.
Monday's 4-1 vote approved a zoning change that was necessary for the project to go forward.
Opponents vow to derail the plan by gathering enough signatures to put it up for referendum in November.
They say the plan would increase traffic and does not provide enough parking.
Developer Oasis West Realty has pledged to mitigate traffic woes with two new lanes and to add some 1,100 parking spaces to the location.
