CITY OF COMMERCE  -  Three people are dead on Interstate 5 south of downtown Los Angeles after a motorist driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 crashed head-on against another vehicle.

California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball says the driver was going northbound on southbound lanes early Friday. The man, believed to be in his early 20s, and two women in a second vehicle were killed at the scene.

The CHP closed all southbound lanes at Slauson Avenue in City of Commerce, backing up traffic at about 3 a.m. The closure began at the start of the morning commuter rush.
